- edit : according to latest comment : Blue City officially closed down the project end March 2011. -
"Blue city" is an $20 billion project which the aim is to build a new luxurious 35km² city, 1 hour away to the west of Muscat. It reflects very well the transformation in progress in Oman and the ambitions of the sultanate for the future.
This project is so huge that it has been divided in 10 phases. The phase1 (only 5,5km²) should be finished only in 2013
Some people already consider the purpose of "Blue city" is to become the new capital of Oman... I think I will come back in Oman in 20 years just to see how the country has evolved and if Muscat is still the capital ;)

There is a very big chance that the blue city project will never see the day of light in its fullest and that the only phase that will actually be completed is phase 1 which is a small block of the *city* due to fraud cases relating to the financing of the project.
ReplyDeleteinteresting, I didn't know that...
ReplyDeleteDubai is the most known city in the middle east, it is the one with skyscrapers and that crap..but it is not the capital of UAE..So tell me, how can Blue city become capital of Oman?
ReplyDeleteThis is what i heard from somebody working on the project. He told me that initially this project was meant to be the new capital, but i don't think it is still the case today indeed.
ReplyDeletehey if i link u to my blog about oman will you link me?? my blog is www.lacailleguidetotravel.blogspot.com and email me your response at lacaille.b@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteOfcourse it is the dream project of the Sultanate, but I think it will remain only as a dream. I don't think that the project will come to reality because of both the glogal financial crisis and the spend thrifting developer. It has delayed more than two months yet, and continues the delay.... I believe that it may exist as onse of the biggest abandoned projects in the world!
ReplyDeletelol
ReplyDeleteI like the set-up of this Internet page and find many of the informations very useful. But for the info about Turtle Beach I do, as well as on any other Internet page that I have looked at, miss this info: "Do they lay their eegs every night throughout the year, or is it only during a period, and if so, when"? No one wants to waste time to go there unless there really is something to see. Brgds to all - TK Shatti Al Qurm
ReplyDeleteHi There !!
ReplyDeleteInteresting to hear about the Blue City.
So many opportunities will be there when get developed, rite?
Seems like a great development, although I'm pretty sure muscat will still be the capital !!
ReplyDeletethe FT announced that Blue City is being taken overby Abu Dhabi..today
ReplyDeleteBlue City is really a nice place in Oman. There's a lot of improvement in this place. Hope I could have my visit here someday.
ReplyDeleteThis is a tremendous project indeed! but why are luxurious projects like this always being constructed in the Middle East especially in Oman or in Dubai or in Saudi Arabia? But still, I pretty much admire the ambition of this project. The world just can't wait for the outcome of this one of the wonders of the world. Man-made wonder of the world that is!
ReplyDeleteWell, Blue City officially closed down the project end March 2011.
ReplyDeleteVery sad ending to a multimillion $$ project.
